Pastures of Heaven - Serenity

An illustration assignment for John Steinbeck’s “Pastures of heaven.”

In the second chapter, it tells of multiple families that came to live in the house. It was said to be a “cursed” house since the families that lived there seemed to die or disappear under strange circumstances. Here depicted is a room that hasn’t been used in ages, the people that have visited the house, have stripped it of its furniture and other belongings. I wanted to create a scene that shows “serenity.” The house’s space is alone, with nothing disturbing it, until a new family comes in and tries to make it their home.
